Shootout Incident[edit | edit source]

On March 12, 2020, in Hastings, Florida, St. Johns County deputies were involved in a fatal shootout with Joshua Christopher Noles, a 38-year-old man from Volusia County. The incident began with a reported hit-and-run in Flagler County, where Noles was identified as the suspect. Deputies later spotted Noles driving aggressively near A1A South and State Road 206 in Crescent Beach. A high-speed chase ensued, leading deputies west onto State Road 207. During the pursuit, Noles drove into oncoming traffic, crashed through a fence, and rammed St. Johns County Sheriff's Office patrol vehicles. The chase ended when Noles crashed into an abandoned bus on private property near S.R. 207 and Armstrong Road. Exiting his vehicle with a handgun, Noles fired at the deputies, who returned fire, resulting in his death at the scene[22][23][24][25].
